It is well known fact that the greatest creation of God is Humans, who have the ability to communicate and listen. I have realized through my learning the importance of listening, which is vital for effective communication. This has also paved a way for better understanding of the synergy between seamless thinking and expression. I have realized that effectiveness of communication is not judged by what we say, but how effectively it reaches receiver.

In this course we learnt many things like interpersonal and intercultural communication, interpersonal conflict resolution and these projects were a good platform where we could put to use the things we learnt. The meetings and presentations were video recorded which helped me identify the areas where I was weak and had to improve because when we see the mistakes we made visually it is easier to correct and we tend to be careful not to make it again .The presentations have helped improve my speaking skills both verbal and non verbal and also increased my confidence level.

The blogs served as a platform to share my thoughts freely with others and also know about others view points on the topic and comment on it. I personally feel that the things learnt in this course are very valuable and will be very helpful in my future endeavors. At this point I would like to quote Isaac Newton -“What we know is a drop, what we don't know is an ocean”. Hence there is always scope for improvement. Hence I hope that I improve on my weaknesses and use the principles learnt in this course effectively in order to succeed in the future.
I conclude the blog by summing up my learning in a sentence.
“Effective communication and team work is essential in every sphere of life and represent two eyes of a body which co-exists and are inseparable”
Hi Abbinayaa,
ReplyDeleteFirstly, I am glad you managed to acquire the effective communication and teamwork skills that will come in handy in the future. As a teammate for the CG1102 project, I feel that you are a great team player and also very responsible in whatever you promise to do. Furthermore, you possess great presentation skills and a high level of professionalism.
Next, I agree with you that the recorded meetings and presentations were very effective as it allowed us to review and reflect on our own performances. This is also one of the best ways that one can utilize to improve on his/her verbal and non-verbal communication skills. With regards to the quote from Isaac Newton, it is very inspiring and accurate. I feel that learning has no limit and there is always room for improvement. There is one philosophical quote that I would like to share with you, “Live till old, and learn till old”. It basically means that one should continue learning as long as he/she is still alive.
Lastly, I would like to say it was great to work with you for the CG1413 project. I hope that you will continue to put those skills that were learnt in this module in use for the remaining years in university and also in the world outside.
Regards,
Hao Tan
Hi Abbinayaa,
ReplyDeleteI have read your post, and it does give an insightful reflection of what you have learnt throughout the course. It is good to see that you have put into practise what you have learned from the module into our projects and meetings. It is inevitable that misunderstandings occur due to certain differences be it cultural or personal. Learning to deal with these differences is therefore important to help the team to work towards their goals.
Personally, I like the quote that you have given in your ending statement. Indeed, the experiences we had in this module have teaches us that to have good teamwork, we must have good communication within the team. Similarly, with effective communication, the team can work effectively and thus allowing goals to be met with high productivity.
This course has truly helped us all in learning things that we previously may think that it is of low importance. I hope that you will be able to apply the skills and knowledge that you have learnt in this course in your future projects.
All the best in your future endeavours and I hope that you will face success in all the things that you do. Good luck!
Regards,
Ryan
Hi Abbinayaa,
ReplyDeleteI personally feel that you have touched on a very important point in effective communication, which is to listen. Some of us neglect the importance of listening as we misunderstand the concept of effective communication. Many forget that communciation is a two way process and therefore I think you have truly acquired the essence of this module.
It is also heartening to see that you have put what you learnt into practice, taking note of cultural differences in your team and making the effort to be sensitive to your team mates. I would also like to add that having good teamwork and bonding is more efficient then having talented individuals with no teamwork. I am sure we have all experienced it firsthand that having good teamwork yield exponential results.
I am very impressed that you made the effort of watching your own presentation video again to spot areas for improvement. Some of us tend to slack off after the presentation is over but you did not, and that really makes you an asset to the team as you continually strive for excellence by constantly reflecting and improving yourself.
In conclusion, I feel that your reflection is honest and insightful as you managed to identify your own strengths and weaknesses by evaluating your own performance throughout the course. I do hope you will carry on practicing effective communication as we progress on our NUS journey together.
Regards,
Jay
Hi Abbinayaa,
ReplyDeleteYour post indeed portraited the things you learned and experienced during the journey of this module. The quote you wrote in the conclusion was very true. Team work and effective communication are two very important pillars of building our personality.
In agreement with you the combination of CG1413 and CG1102 was indeed very interesting and had lots of potential. It tried to opened up our insights to a different level, which I think was very successful.
As being your classmate and group mate, I have noticed a very significant change in your personality. You have become more extrovert and confident which is very impressive.
Sometimes for international student it becomes difficult to manage in putting their ideas effectively to the people for other races. However to my surprise you settled very fast. A multi-cultural environment like the one in Singapore requires the effective communication skills to interact your idea with other. And you indeed used effective communication to make a mark here.
Apart from being a very good classmate you have been a great friend to me too. It was great having you around. You were an amazing group mate and most importantly a very nice person. I would really cherish the time we spend together in the class. Hope we get the chance to work together again in the future. I would like to wish you all the very best in your future endeavors!
Regards
Ayushi
Hi Abbinayaa,
ReplyDeleteFirstly I have to admit that you were a very good team mate for the CG1413 problem-solution project. I have seen your great ability in time management. In addition, you were able to think further and give insightful suggestions every time we met together for the project. You are also a very good speaker. In both oral presentations, you were able to stay calm and speak in a reasonable pace. You maintained your eye contact with the audience and presented every single idea very clearly. On the whole, you did very well for this module and I agree with you that you have actually learnt many important skills including effective communication and teamwork through this module.
I remembered that you have mentioned misunderstanding in your very first blog post. I am sure after all those projects and presentation you must have had better understanding of misunderstanding and its impact in teamwork. Misunderstanding will definitely hinder the progress of teamwork. Moreover, it is also a main cause of interpersonal conflicts. Personally I feel that this module has taught me better ways to communicate with others and better solutions to interpersonal conflicts. I think I will apply these skills in my future life.
I like your conclusion as it really explains why we need to study this module and how effective communication will affect our life.
